Challenge of 21st century museums, libraries, and archives is relevancy and utilization. How can we induce interest in perceived old collections?

Cooperation with library, archives, conservation, IT, registrar (museum person who tracks everything), and legal.

California AV Preservation Project (CAVPP) offered a chance to digitize AV material. They had standards, a vendor, storage, access (through Internet Archive, http://www.archive.org), funding, which made it much easier.

84 libraries, archives, and museums. Materials of California (or general) historic significance.

Participants: Assess your collection and nominate recordings, enter metadata in ContentDM, then send them off when approved.

Materials also have to be at risk of loss due to physical condition or format obsolescence and in public domain or owned by library.
